Dogwood Tree

I have a dogwood tree in my front yard that gets full sun. It is probably 8 years old. It produces beautiful deep pink flowers, but it only blooms every other year. I live in Grosse Pointe, Michigan (not sure what zone). There are many dogwoods in the area and they all seem to bloom every year. . . except mine. Actually, Grosse Pointe is known to be one of the cities in the United States that has tons of these trees. Why would mine only bloom every other year? Any ideas?

Dogwoods (and some other trees) sometimes bloom much more heavily every other year. Sometimes weather, lack of bee activity, and an absence of an appropriate pollen source can inhibit fruit formation. Also, some fruit trees flower every other year duet o chemical balances within the plant and the previous year’s fruit load. This is called alternate bearing. Plants can be encouraged to bear a normal crop every year by proper pruning and crop thinning.
