Dog Manure in Garden

Three summers ago, my ex decided to put our dog’s manure in our garden…bad idea. The garden has not been used or tilled since that happened. I now want to plant a garden and, of course, will need to rototill it. Will it be safe to plant anything in the garden? I live in Colorado in the Denver area.

Yes, it is safe now to plant there. Anything harmful that might have been in the feces will have died off by now so you are good to go. For future reference, 95% of the time, manure from animals will not cause harm – but you shouldn’t use it in the garden because of that other 5%. To be on the safe side, it take about a year for any pathogens that might have been in manure from meat eating animals to die off.
