Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comDoes the heat from compost kill red spider mites (as I know they like heat)? We’ve had red spider mites in our polytunnel so I’ve taken out a few bean plants. I’m wondering if the straw mulch is ok to put on the compost. I’m assuming it’s providing a habitat for them at the moment, as there are little webs all over it.

As a general rule I would try not to put contaminated material in the compost.
Material infested with insects, diseased material and weeds should not be added to compost.
