Rose of Sharon with thorn-like growths

Does Rose of Sharon have thorn-like growths on the stems? I have a small shrub starting to leaf and it has light thorn type things on the stems. It’s in a spot where there was a small starter Rose of Sharon, but it got mistakenly cut down. Does Rose of Sharon have thorny stems?

Rose of sharon is not a thorny plant, so the plant that is growing is not a rose a sharon.
