Q.Does Liming Actually Decrease PH In Soil?

Zone Norway, Maine Zone 5 | Anonymous added on May 31, 2025 | Answered

In reference to your webpage https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/soil-fertilizers/what-is-molybdenum.htm. At the bottom of the page, Under the heading of “Increasing Molybdenum in Soils”, it states “Liming decreases the pH in soil, or sweetens it, to reduce the acidity.” Other sites are saying that it increases pH (ie. from 5.0 to 6.0) Now I’m confused. Which is it?

Liming increases the alkalinity of soils so it increases the pH. I believe the sentence you refer to should say "Liming increases the pH in soil."

I will forward this to the editors. Thanks for the heads up!
