Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comHello. I have a number of mophead hydrangeas (I do not know the variety) grown from cuttings that are about 18 months old. They have been in the greenhouse over winter, and I am about to plant them in the garden. Some seem to have grown quite tall.
My question is, should I prune them to try to make them more bushy? I live in quite a windy spot near the sea. Is there any other advice I should know?
Thanks for any help.

Pruning will be very beneficial to these trees, but you don’t want to cut them completely back, since they only flower from old growth. This article will tell you when it is safe to prune different types of hydrangeas: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/hydrangea/prune-hydrangea-bushes-hydrangea-pruning-instructions.htm [1]
