Do You Cut Garden Phlox Down To The Ground Before Winter?

I have garden phlox and need to know if I should cut them back in the fall.

Pruning like that before dormancy begins can make the plant go into “grow mode”. I wait until the phlox plants have browned out and gone dormant before pruning them.
