Q.Do They Need Light?
Was reading your article about Lilies. I didn’t get the whole name of mine from where I bought it. Started with Canni and has red flowers. My main question is when storing over winter do they need light? And I live in western Washington state. Are my winters too much for them or how cold can they get and still survive in a container. I have a garden shed and plan to store it there if it doesn’t do well outside in container. I suppose there is no way to tell how cold our winters will be. Thanks!

I suspect you purchased canna lily bulbs. They need to be lifted and stored inside or the container can be moved to a non-freezing area. You are in zones 7 to 8, so if your bulbs were in the ground, they could me covered in mulch for the winter and should do fine. However, if you want to keep them in a container, I would move it inside the garden shed. Low or no light is fine and water sparingly. You can repot them in potting soil for best results before storing.
