Do Gardens Need Light In The Winter ?

Do gardens need light in winter ? A neighbouring extension threatens to cast our garden into complete shadow from about the beginning of December to mid January. Will this harm our garden and any garden plants. Thanks

If the plants in question are dormant at this time it should not affect them.
