Q.Do Amaryllis Bulbs Often Propogate Variants?

Zone 7B | Atl-Bee added on January 21, 2023 | Answered

I noticed that my Red Lion has what appears to be a failed pink striated child coming up. There was an issue that the flower was bursting from the container when I purchased the bulb, but it did survive and provided a few beautiful flowers. I was shocked to see these different colors appended to the bulb. Is this how hybrids are made?

Not hybrids, but striated and variegated sports! If you want to keep this around, you may need to do a little work to ensure that the mutated genetic set stays intact!
