digging up and putting back later

Putting a retaining wall in and have to dig up my iris and clematis. How do I keep them alive until we are done? It's just my husband and I working on it, so it could take a month or so before we get done.

I would recommend sticking them into a container until then. You can simply continue caring for them as you normally would. Just make sure to get up as much of the surrounding soil roots with them.

With the iris, you also have the option of storing the rhizomes for planting later. Here is more info on that:
