Q.digging potatoes

Anonymous added on September 15, 2015 | Answered

We live in northern CA. up on the coast. I planted a second crop 6 weeks ago. We have had lots of fog this year but the plants are up and look healthy. They are just starting to bud. We do get some sun in the afternoon, and the plants are in the open so when it shines they get it. So I need to know when do I dig them this time of year? Hope you can help. Thank you.

This is tricky since there is really no definitive answer. Potatoes aren't ready until after the plant dies back, so it's really just a wait and see kind of thing. This article should help determine when to dig your potatoes: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/potato/how-and-when-to-harvest-potatoes.htm
