Determining right moisture content after watering

Question

I have a ficus ginseng I rescued from a friend. I re-potted the plant and did its first watering with rain water. It took about a week for the top 2-3 inches of soil to dry, and I am at my second watering on Sunday, but the top of the soil is still wet. I only watered until water drained from the bottom. The temp here has dropped from high 80’s to mid 60’s and the plant is indoors. How do I know if the soil is not draining or drying fast enough? Is a week too long for the soil to dry out? Thank you.

The roots system is extensive and they are holding a lot of water in those thick roots.
It may take a week or even longer for the plant to need moisture between watering.
Don’t worry about a schedule, just check the soil as you indicate and only then add water.
Your plant looks healthy and happy.
