Deer have eaten my hosta plants

Deer have eaten my hosta plants, leaving only the stalks. Will the plants send up new shoots? I have spread moth balls and cayenne pepper around the plants. Is there anything else I can do to keep deer away?

So sorry about your plants.
Most likely you will not see much new growth on the Hosta for the season, unless the plants were still growing and sending out leaves.
Be warned though as the deer may be back once they have found your plants to dine some more.
Here are a few links with more information.
You could plant in some shade loving annuals to fill in your garden for the summer.
