Q.Deading Noise From Neighbours

Zone BS32 4AY | Anonymous added on April 30, 2022 | Answered

Hi, can you help it is proving difficult trying to find the best solution/s for deading sounds from my next door neighbour, she is a very noisy person, and not very nice, so cannot talk to her to address this. I have a ever green confer hedge, but the sound still keeps coming through, there is gaps at the bottom of the hedge so Dont know is that is causing the problem as well. Thing is where I live we are only allowed a hedge, and if I put anything else it has to be mobile and cannot be fixed, so building another hedge/fence is not an option. I have talked to various gardeners etc, and have had so many different suggestions it hard to know which way to turn, also I am not very tall and have issues with my back so need something that can keep the sound down and be manageable. Was talking to my local nursery today, they suggested marginal plants in between the spaces – not sure how that would work? My main areas issues are in the L shaped corner where her bins are, and the other end of the hedge where their shed is also they have just put a marque and sits so issue there too. Please can you help?

Since you are only allowed a hedge and already have one, your choices are limited. If you have the funds to add plants in containers, broadleaf evergreens will work better than conifers . Other ideas are to add a pleasant noise as that from a fountain that will help drown out other noises. Those can be purchased or built above ground, so they are mobile.

If you have room for a portable greenhouse or other structure on your side, that could be helpful, as well.
