dead tree oozing dust

I have a stand that was made from a dead tree root. It is now oozing dust from tiny holes in the wood. It has been varnished and is shiny. I am wondering if bugs are trying to come out? This is in my home and I am not sure what to do.

That is very possible, that bugs are boring out of it. If you have a way, leaving it in freezing temps (maybe a freezer or outside if it is still cold where you are) will kill the bugs.

Otherwise, you can try placing it in a plastic bag, treating it with a pesticide and then closing the bag and leaving it in there for a few days. This should kill any pests in the wood.
