Dead peony

My 15 year old peony did not come back this spring. I left all the foliage on all winter. What happened? Is there anything in the root system that I can salvage?

I am sorry to hear about your plant. I am not sure what could of happened, unless it simply got too cold for the plant to survive winter. Perhaps, its age was a factor as well. This article will help determine if the plant is in fact dead and whether it can be saved: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/environmental/how-to-tell-if-a-plant-is-dead-and-how-to-recover-an-almost-dead-plant.htm [1]
