dandelion

I recently retired from the UK to Czech republic.
Brought a home with a large garden mainly to lawn and fruit trees.
the lawn is I believe mainly self seeded and covered in dandelions.
If i use a weed killer recommended for getting rid of the invader is there a danger I will also kill the patient?
what type of product would be best and when
