Cypress Indoor Plant

Question

When I bought a cypress plant and placed it in my room but the very next day it started to dry out. Then I placed it in the sun and all its stems dried out further and turned yellow. What did I do wrong and is there anyway I can save it?

There are many species of plants that come under the genus cupressus, or cypress. However, none of them are indoor plants. They need much more sun than they can get indoors. When you buy a plant from a plant store, and it starts to look bad the next day, either there’s something wrong with the plant, or you didn’t water it. Cypress in pots are going to need a lot of water. Quite possibly it didn’t get enough in the plant store. Of course, placing it in the sun only dried it out further (unless you watered it, of course) and besides that, if it had been very long since it was out in the sun, it might have burned the leaves. (Plants get sunburned, same as people, if they’re not used to the sun.) Move it to a spot where it gets dappled light, and water it copiously every day. It might come back. Then you can plant it in a spot outdoors where it will get plenty of water.

The confusions around plant names, common and latin, can be maddening, can’t it? However, what I said above still applies, except that this cyperus can be used as a houseplant. It needs GOBS of water.
