Container Hibiscus Plants

Q.cutting back Hibiscus plants in the winter before bringing them indoors.

knowing my Hibiscus plants need to be indoors in the winter , i am short on space for them is it ok to cut them back and will it hurt their growth next spring, or can i just remove them from their pots and bring indoors.
