Cutting and Pruning

It is very hot in Humble, Tx. –now 97 degrees. It is too late to cut back azaleas or gardenias? I understand if you cut them back after July, you may not get flowers for the spring. What should I do to get the nice flowers as we did this year? Same question for roses.

With roses you want to dead head them or prune back the dead blooms. That way when they do get up the energy to put forth some growth the new buds will not have to fight their way through to make for some nice blooms. Keep them well watered and fed and the buds leading to blooms will come on again.

Another of our experts here will have to help you with the azaleas and gardenias. My expertise is roses.
