Q.Cucumbers That Have Turned White, R They Safe To Eat ?

Zone Zone 3b to 4b depending on location on the yard | Anonymous added on March 1, 2025 | Answered

Last year, 2023, I bought the usual bedding plants at the local Walmart store Green house. The resulting cucumbers were completely white. The leaves were dark green like normal but the fruit was 97 % white. I was scared to eat them b/c I have kidney trouble. Anytime I eat something off, I develop terrible pains in my right kidney. Some sources said the leafy leaves were covering the cucumbers too much. So, I trimmed the leaves short around the existing fruit. I fertilized once a month with a recommended fertilizer. I cracked the cucumber open and they smelt and looked juicy like a normal cucumber. My garden exists in large plastic barrels instead of in a garden flat space. The neighbours have cats and they like to have sex under my 20 ft trailer. I used to have a dog but she died on May 31, 2021. She was more than 17 years old…..Sheltie, purebred. I bought the dog in a pet store. She had no diseases. Some one else told me, the cucumber was a non-green variety. The label was exactly the same on the other cucumber plants I bought. They were green and yummy. We had them for suppa. Thus, do you have any suggestions to what happened to my cucumber plant? Thank you for your consideration.

If they turned white because of an environmental problem such as not enough sun on the cucumbers or excessive moisture, they are safe to eat. If they turned white because of a disease such as powdery mildew, it is best not to eat them. Here is more:
