Q.Cucumber Vine Growing Direction

Zone St Austell, Cornwall, UK | Anonymous added on February 8, 2021 | Answered

Hi,
my 8’x6′ greenhouse faces east/west and I like to grow tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers.
This year I thought I would try to grow my cucumbers from one to the other…just to see if it would be better than how I normally grow them (vertically).
Which end should I plant the seedling, for it to grow the best, ie seedling at the east end and train the vine to grow toward the west or the opposite way around…..or is it just a silly thing to try.
Thanks for your patience

I will take a guess and say train it to grow toward the west where it will get more sun. My only concern is the fruit will contact the soil and be exposed to soil borne diseases, unless it is mulched well.
