Crooked lilac main trunk

My neighbor transplanted a lilac tree from her son at his place. The lilac was curving to reach the sun. Can she cut the trunk back to where it starts to curve or is there something else she can do to straighten the trunk?
Thanks for your help.

Lilac’s can be pruned quite heavily. I would wait until early spring to do this.
