Crepe Myrtle Trees

What can I put around the base of my crepe myrtle trees to stop the shoots that come up out from the tree?

Trees put suckers (those sprouts) out more when they are under stress. Some trees, like crepe myrtles, are prone to suckers no matter what you do.

The best thing you can do to prevent (or in the case of crepe myrtles reduce) suckers is to make sure the tree is as happy as possible. Fertilize regularly, water it well and keep a close eye on it for pests and disease and treat them quickly when you find them. This will reduce the number of suckers that the tree puts out.
