Crepe Myrtle Tree Problem

We experienced a problem with our young crepe myrtle tree. We had significant rain shower after a dry spring/early summer. The bush’s branches bent over with the weight of the wet and full blossoms and many snapped completely off under the strain. The remainder of branches that didn’t break off are still bent over even now that the rains have gone, and it seems like it will never return to their pre-rain vertical condition. Tree is damaged and I am sad. What happened, what do we do now, and how do we prevent this in the future?
