Q.crepe myrtle Or ‘crape murder”

Zone 77084 | Ivette Giboyeaux added on February 24, 2017 | Answered

Landscaper cut down to the ground 2 old crepe myrtles whose trunks were about 18″ in circumference and about 15+ feet tall. I am devastated. Will they grow back? If yes, how long will it take and what do I need to do to help them grow?

Oh my!

Yes, you are correct in your devastation of Crape Murder!

But, your trees likely will come back, and likely will grow back quickly.

Next winter select 3 to 5 well spaced branches and cut off any others to the ground.
Follow pruning instructions in the link below and within 3 to 5 years your tree should be an attractive tree again.
