Crepe Myrtle Has Not Leafed Out

I live in KY and last year I set out 3 crepe myrtles and watered them religiously. It is now late May and the branches have no leaves. There are new shoots coming up from the ground. What should I do? I have never had crepe myrtles before and don’t want to lose them.

Your crepe myrtle should have leafed out by now. I’m pretty sure it’s dead, but you can always wait and see if you get new shoots from the root. This article will help determine if the tree is dead or just slow to start: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/environmental/how-to-tell-if-a-plant-is-dead-and-how-to-recover-an-almost-dead-plant.htm [1]
