Q.crepe myrtle (catawba)
My crepe myrtle has black leaves and hardly bloomed this year. What could have caused the black leaves? It is surrounded by rose bushes that did excellent.

It sounds like it may have sooty mold, which is a fungus that is a byproduct of a pest infestation. Treat the tree with neem oil. This is both a fungicide and a pesticide, so will take care of the pests and the sooty mold in one go. Plus, it is organic and safe for people and pets.
