Creeping Fig Fasten Ties

Question

I bought creeping fig in hopes that it will attach to my retaining wall. It has been 2 weeks and I have removed the ties that it was attached to, hoping that it would attach itself. But instead, all the vines are not upright anymore and have fallen towards the ground. I want it to grow on the wall. Should I not have taken the ties off the stick and plant? Should I put the ties back on to “train” the plant to attach to the wall? How long will it take for it to attach to the wall and start growing? I also read that I should only water once a week.

Yes, you may want to reattach the ties. It is difficult to say how long it will take the vine to establish itself, but once it does, it will be difficult to remove. As for watering, you want to keep the soil moist, not soggy, with about 2 inches of water weekly, so your watering should be fine. However, you may want to check the soil first to keep from over watering it. I am having the same issue but I didn’t the times before. One time I wove it through a chain link fence going up and sideways down the length of the fence to cover it up in a green blanket and as long as I kept weaving it as it grew it eventually covered the fence beautifully. The other time I planted one plant in the corner of a wooden fence and it attached just fine. Now I’m trying to put more greenery in my desert topical backyard and cover up some of the bare block walls only this time their hanging down. I did buy some stickups with ties that you can glue to the wall and tie the vine to the wall but didn’t think I would need them, guess I will have to so the wind doesn’t drag them down. I was concerned if I got the right plant because I thought I planted Grape stake ivy before but it looks the same so it helped to read about it here, thanks. Will get busy propping it up on the fence.
