Q.Crape Myrtle pruning

Anonymous added on September 16, 2015 | Answered

I recently moved and have a beautiful Crape Myrtle in my front bed. I know to wait till Feb. to prune, but this thing has gotten way too big for this spot due to lack of pruning. I’m afraid if I wait till Feb. and we have any major snow it will break all the branches. It is shaped as a bush and not a tree. Any way I can cut some back now?

You don't want to prune until early spring: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/crepe-myrtle/best-crepe-myrtle-pruning-time-when-to-prune-crepe-myrtle.htm
If your tree is a standard form, with one main trunk, pruning to 8' will be difficult. However, if it's a multi-trunked bush form, you should have more success with a drastic cutback. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/crepe-myrtle/pruning-crepe-myrtle-trees.htm
