Crape Myrtle Trees

Crape Myrtle

pat wyshynski added on January 5, 2017 | Answered

I have 2 crape myrtles in our garden. They grew quite tall in the summer, although I pruned them before the new growing season. Maybe I didn't prune them low enough. When should they be pruned and how low should I prune them?

I am not sure why yours would have grown so tall, unless it is producing suckers after being topped:

Also, excessive nitrogen fertilizer can cause trees to grow too fast.
