Crape Myrtle

I have mature crape myrtles that have done very well for years. But this year they are peeling bark at the base of the trunk. I don’t recall this before, and beneath what’s peeled is moist. I’ve hired a company to mow and spray for the first time ever, and am worried they might have sprayed something to cause this.

The peeling bark is normal for a mature crepe myrtle. This article will help explain: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/crepe-myrtle/bark-shedding-crepe-myrtle.htm [1]
