Crape myrtle tree

We hired a landscaper to install 3 crape mertyle trees. Today he removed (and replaced) one of the trees due to truck damage. There is a tree next to the one he removed that shows smilar damage but on a much smaller scale. Should I be concerned? What is this?

Without knowing the damage or the extent it is difficult to comment.
I would however insist on healthy specimens be planted.
