Aeration every couple years or so it helpful for any kind of lawn, but because you are in Georgia and the soil tends to be clay there and gets compacted easily, more frequent aeration is recommended. Yearly, and even twice yearly core aeration is often recommended for your area. It will help the roots to grow better, which in turn does make for a nicer looking lawn.
