Q.Confusion On Full Sun Vs. Partial Shade

Zone Meadow Vista, Ca 95722 | Anonymous added on May 16, 2025 | Answered

Hello, In your newsletter you have the Agastache – or anise hyssop listed as full sun or partial shade in zones 3-10. I’m in zone 9, went to buy this plant at my local nursery but the tag said full sun, no mention of partial shade. I live in an area that does not get full sun so I always look for partial shade plants. Which is correct for this plant? I didn’t buy it since it said full sun. This is confusing to buyers. Thanks for any feedback, Paula Shover paula_shover@hotmail.com

There are many varieties of agastache, but most need a sunny disposition. The article below just says it needs sun.

Most plants that thrive in full sun will usually do well in part sun, too, in warmer zones. A break from the afternoon sun is beneficial. Part shade is less sun than full or part sun. It will probably do fine if you have a part sun situation. Here is the distinction below. Sources sometimes vary in light exposure, but I would go by the tag.
