Comparison of USA Weather zones and the UK

This excellent site would appear to be an American one (where you have a climate) and therefore articles are perhaps not fully applicable to the UK (where we have weather!!). Given the vagaries of UK weather, what advice would you give us Brits to apply to your articles to make them applicable to UK weather? In my case – west coast just south of Scottish border, prone to wind but very little, and then mild, frost and even less snow. Coldest temperature last winter was -1C. Does tend to be wet (about 1200 mm rain last year).

You are in luck! The USDA gardening zones have been applied to the UK area as well. You can see the map here: [1]

It looks like the area you are describing would fall in Zone 8, so any of our articles on the site that are about zone 8 or if they say a plant will survive in zone 8 would apply to your gardens.
