pruning fig tree

Common fig tree is full of dead limbs but new growth is visible. Do you just start cutting out/pruning the dead growth to make room for the new? What do I need to know before I start cutting?

As the above article will explain, a fig tree pruning endeavor starts out by first removing dead or diseased wood and any branches that are not growing out from your selected fruiting wood.
