Q.Cochineal Scale Infestation

Zone Los Angeles, CA | Thomas F added on August 23, 2022 | Answered

I read your article on cochineal scale infestation. I’m a homeowner in Los Angeles. My 20 foot by 20 ft cactus patches infected. I’ve used Malathion and triazicide as recommended, after hosing off the webs. I’ve tried Bee Safe Insect Killer Concentrate, and Ortho exterior insect killer. Nothing has worked. I have been fighting a bug fo 4 months. Is there anything else I can try.

Outside of constant maintenance, not much will help. If you want to get serious about it (but do so carefully... There are some consequences for using incorrectly) then systemic pesticides will be one way to make sure that they do not return.

This article will help:

A google search can reveal natural variants, which I prefer, that are still systemic in nature.
