Coal Dust

sierramining added on November 9, 2015 | Answered

We just acquired a large amount of coal dust from a power plant. We do composting of manure and wood waste. Would coal dust be a good additive to our compost?

My recommendation is no.

Coal dust contains heavy metals and should not be introduced into the compost and then soil.
