Clematis

I have a 4-year-old clematis that is not getting any bigger. It blooms beautifully (once) in late spring, then it is done for the season. It has a short trellis to climb and it is fairly bushy. Do you think a taller trellis would help?

Have you fertilized it? If not, then fertilize with a 3:1:2 or 4:1:2 ratio fertilizer. You may also want to consider pruning, as this can oftentime promote growth. This article may offer additional help as well: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/vines/clematis/growing-clematis.htm [1]
