Q.Clematis over winter

Zone CT | Anonymous added on July 16, 2020 | Answered

I will plant a Clematis onto an arbor, for the winter I was planning to bring the cedar arbor into the cellar, what do I do with the plant, just unwrap the climbing vines and place on the ground?

They will be much happier with a more permanent fixture. I would install something that stays out so that when you prune your clematis it has a chance to grow around your arbor each year, but the old growth doesn't have to spend energy re-wrapping and growing torn leaves.
