Clematis

My clematis was full of flowers. Then we had a hard rain and most of the petals fell. Should I cut back the spent flowers or leave them alone?

It isn’t necessary to dead head, but in this case I would pinch back the stems of the lost flowers. This will help the plant pause and then resume growing healthy foliage.
