Q.Clematis 1year Old Completely Eaten By Rat. New Shoots Just Sprouting. Best Way To Move It?

Zone Nelson, BC V1L 7B6 | endoscaper added on April 29, 2021 | Answered

Do I treat the clematis just like any other spring clematis? New shoots are just emerging from the ground and are about 3/4” tall. It’s a Princess Diana, garden-center-bought a year ago. We intended to move it this spring, in that present site had too much shade. We thought plant had died in that dirt around stem emergence from the ground had been dug up by rat with no evidence of plant apart from severed stems on trellis.

Moving them will be like moving any other plant, but this one is a little finicky about being disturbed once it is established. It can be done, but it is going to require extra care and observation.
