Q.Circle-Like Shaped Vegetation on Lawn

Anonymous added on October 15, 2012 | Answered

I don’t know how to explain this, but need your assistance. I recently noticed several clumps of brown vegetation growing in my lawn. As far as I can tell, they started out with small clumps of 2-4, about the size of grapes. They then grew as big as an apple. They have no leaf nor trunk, just grow beneath the lawn and pop up and out as the size grows bigger. They are all brownish in color and clumps are spread out at random distances. All I could do is to dig them out and dispose them into the trash bin. Please advise if these things are hazardous.

It sounds like a puffball mushroom, which can be white, gray colored or brown. Here is more info on them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puffball

This article will help with keeping them from growing in your yard:
