Christmas trees

We cut our own Douglas Fir tree from a reputable farm on Saturday. We had the tree in a bucket of cool water within 2 hours and it was in the stand the next day. It doesn’t seem to be taking much water. It is ten and a half feet tall, in a large stand, out of direct heat or sunlight and the temperature is ordinarily between 66 and 70 degrees throughout the day.

I don’t know why this tree is not taking much water and am concerned that it won’t last, and may even become hazardous as we head into the new year. Any thoughts or suggestions?

It is quite common for a fresh cut tree to take a few days to start drinking water.
