Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comA large branch of our mature pear tree is rubbing against our vinyl fence, and will soon break through. I am considering digging under the tree to slightly change the angle so the branch will clear the tree. My wife wants to remove the branch but I would prefer not to. The branch is about 5 inches in diameter and at about a 15 degree angle to the trunk. Is my idea to dig under the tree with a hose and pull it into a different angle slightly a dumb one?

Digging up your tree or attempting to loosen the tree could result in the death of the tree.
It would be best to prune the tree or move the fence.
