Cactus

I have a tall cactus that has branches coming off the main plant that turn upwards (I don’t know what it is called). It has a type of thorns and the shape of the body and branches are a type of diamond shape. Anyway, the stalk looks like it is dying. Do you know if startings can be made off of the branches?
