Q.Carob In Zone 7 Baltimore, MD

Zone 21225 | DKFSpecialties added on November 6, 2019 | Answered

Hello,
I live in Baltimore, MD. We usually have very wet winters. Every few years several rounds of Arctic blasts that take us down to single digits, although, I’ve never seen it go below 0°F, even though Zone 7 has that potential.
If I plant Carob trees close to the S side of my house, will they be likely to survive the winter. Would I need to use a frost cloth, or, would mulching the base be enough?
Thanks

Had you been in the next climate zone over, then possibly. Unfortunately, you are 2 zones over. That will mean no matter how much effort you put into it, the tree will not survive the winter.

You might try it as a container plant, though.
