English Ivy is hardy down to zone 4. If you have this plants in pots, you can bring them to a sheltered location when they have gone dormant.
Your garage is a good place.
Add some mulch to the top of the pots to help with moisture retention. Check the soil about once a month to make sure the soil has not completely dried out.
Add a small amount of water if needed.
If you choose to bring them indoors to have as a potted plant, make sure you watch for signs of insects during the dry winter months.
